How to mint on Basilisk? đ
Itâs been some time since KodaDot implemented Basilisk. New features were introduced. Letâs look together at the minting process and how to use Basilisk.
Today we will go through a few things to make you more confident while minting on the Basilisk chain.

How to mint on Basilisk?
Why Basilisk?
Last year, we implemented the Basilisk to KodaDot. Basilisk is, it is a liquidity protocol built for the Kusama ecosystem.
Besides the ability to mint (collections of) NFTs and place them for sale with very low minting fees, there are some additional unique features.
Cross-chain features - this will be more visible in the upcoming weeks
Royalties - allows artists to set a fee (as a percentage of the selling price) which they'll receive from every following trade generated by the NFT
Making Offers- make an offer on NFT you like (even those that are not listed)
Other features - AI minter on Basilisk - where you create an NFT directly to your wallet. We are also planning to add auctions and other news in the near future.
Pre-minting phase
Of course, you need to have a wallet first. My favorite is Talisman, but you can use other supported wallets (Subwallet, Nova wallet, Polkadot.js, Enkrypt, and CLV wallet).Â
For Talisman: Download the app, create a wallet, and add your funds (KusamaâââKSM).Â
To cover our very low minting fees, you must first have some tokens in your wallet. You have two options you can choose from:
KSM (Kusama) - bridging your KSM
BSX (Basilisk) - getting BSX on Basilisk (not needed if you have KSM)
Bridging
Having KSM in your wallet does not mean you can start right away. You need to bridge your Kusama into the Basilisk chain. You can do so using XCMâââKusama's cross-messaging protocol. The three most used options are:
Using KodaDotâs Teleport Bridge (easiest)
The official Basilisk website
Or Karura
In this step, you will just move your Kusama to the Basilisk chain (your Kusama will be on your BSX address).
KodaDotâs Teleport Bridge - Go KodaDot's top right corner click on the circle and select Teleport Bridge. We want to teleport From Kusama â To Basilisk. Select how much KSM you want to bridge. Click on Send and confirm your transaction. It also works backward if you want to move your funds back to Kusama.Â
Congratulations, you successfully bridged your KSM, and it's time to mint!
Getting Basilisk tokens (optional)
BSX tokens are not needed to mint or buy NFTs on KodaDot. But if you are still interested in owning some, read on. You will need KSM (bridged). Go to the basilisk app and on the top left corner click on Trade. Here you can only trade bridged KSM for BSX tokens (and a few other options). If you did not bridge your KSM before, you could not use the basilisk app for this.
Itâs possible to buy/trade BSX tokens on exchanges like Kraken using other cryptocurrencies or fiat assets. In this case, donât forget to send it to your Polkadot wallet.
Donât forget to change minting fees to BSX if you havenât bridged your KSM.
But as we mentioned before, if you are using KSM (bridged), you donât need BSX to mint/buy NFTs on KodaDot at all!
How to mint on Basilisk?
Go to KodaDot. First, you need to connect your wallet, choose the Basilisk network, and you can start.
At this point, you should be able to see your bridged KSM in your wallet.
Open Assets and double-check if your minting fees are set for KSM. If you have BSX tokens and not KSM, set BSX as your minting fee.
Minting
Go to Create - Classic and start creating your NFT
On the top, you can switch between Collection and NFT. In case you have already created a collection click on NFT to add NFTs to your collection.
To create your collection add a title picture/gif, and write a name and description.
Click on Create Collection, confirm your transaction, and wait a moment. You will be redirected to add NFT to your collection:
Click on Collection to choose the one you want to add NFTs into. If you cannot see your freshly created collection, wait a few minutes and refresh your page!!!
To add your NFT fill in the details:
Explicit content - is your NFT not safe for work?
List NFT for sale - if you want to set the price later, you can leave this off.
Add KodaForest attribute to NFT - you will pay an extra fee of 1 USD that will go to RMTerra to help fulfill our carbon-neutral goals.
On-chain attributes - You can add any off-chain attributes to your NFTs.
Royalty - A percentage of all sales will go to your creator (or other selected) wallet.
Click to create NFTs! - sign the transaction, and congratulations! You just added a new NFT to your collection!
